The UK's solar installations are reaching end of life. The materials inside them are too valuable to waste. Solpraium recovers them.
The UK installed most of its solar capacity between 2010 and 2015. Those panels are now past the midpoint of their working lives. The first major decommissioning wave has already begun.
Annual volumes of panels requiring specialist end-of-life processing will reach into the millions across the UK by the end of this decade. Across Europe, volumes are substantially larger. The timeline is not coming. It is here.
The materials inside these panels are not waste. They contain silver, silicon, aluminium, copper, and glass. These materials have commercial value. Several of them are classified as critical to the UK and European supply chain.
The UK currently has one industrial-scale solar panel recycling facility. The majority of UK PV waste is processed overseas. That adds cost. It adds carbon. It exports the materials recovery value that should stay in the UK economy.
Producer compliance schemes and solar farm operators face growing pressure to show compliant end-of-life management. WEEE regulations place clear obligations on producers. The demand for domestic processing capacity is real. The infrastructure is not keeping up.
Solpraium is being built to close that gap. We provide UK-based, compliant, specialist processing and materials recovery for end-of-life solar panels.
Every panel we receive is assessed on arrival. Our approach is structured around extracting the highest value from each one. We follow the waste hierarchy: reuse first, then recover.
Panels at end of productive life go through our specialist processing stream. We recover the key materials each one contains and return them to productive use. We issue WEEE evidence notes to producer compliance schemes and provide full chain-of-custody documentation.
Many panels removed from solar farm repowering projects still have years of generating capacity left. We assess every panel we receive. Those that meet our performance criteria are certified and remarketed into appropriate second-life applications.
Solpraium is being established with the infrastructure, regulatory approvals, and commercial frameworks to handle the volumes the market will generate over the next decade. Four things set us apart.
We operate as an Approved Authorised Treatment Facility under the UK WEEE Regulations. Our environmental management systems are built to ISO 14001. We provide full documentation and evidence notes for everything we process.
Our processing methodology is designed to recover the maximum value from every panel. We are investing in advanced capability that goes well beyond conventional mechanical recycling in terms of materials quality and value.
For large decommissioning projects where transporting full panels is impractical, we deploy processing capability directly to the site. This cuts logistics cost and carbon footprint for major farm decommissions.
We serve clients across the UK and, via compliant cross-border arrangements, across European markets. We work with solar operators, compliance schemes, installers, and logistics partners throughout the UK and EU.
Solpraium Ltd is a specialist solar panel recycling and critical materials recovery business. We are UK-based and operate across UK and European markets.
We exist to ensure the materials in end-of-life solar panels are recovered efficiently, compliantly, and at the scale the market demands. That is the whole business. We do not try to do everything. We are very good at this one thing.
